Notice & Request for Public Comment: Essential Air Service Proposals for Saint Paul Island

request for public comments on proposals for essential air service to saint paul island

On August 19, 2025, the USDOT reissued a request for proposals for an airline to provide passenger air service to Saint Paul Island. Three airlines bid on our EAS: Kenai Aviation, Security Aviation, and Sterling (Aleutian) Airways.

These proposals are linked below. Also provided is a summary/comparison chart of the airplanes, seats, routes, fares, etc. Last week the entities met to review and discuss these proposals and agreed that Sterling (Aleutian) Airways’ proposal with the Saab 2000 in a 30-seat configuration would best meet the need of our community and are going to show support for this proposal. This support is based on the aircraft (Saab 2000) and the proposed airfare of $399 one way. Aleutian would not have the Saab 2000 ready for about 90 days, so in the meantime we would work with Aleutian to contract with Security Aviation as the community has been doing for the past 6 weeks to provide air service until the Saab 2000 is ready.

Please look at the proposals (links below) and provide comments on them. You can provide comments by going to: https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/DOT-OST-2019-0038-0055 then follow the instructions.
