City of Saint Paul Awarded National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Grant

December 8, 2025 – The City of Saint Paul received notification on December 1, 2025 that it had been selected and approved for an FY25 National Coastal Resilience Fund grant.  The National Coastal Resilience Fund (NCRF) supports nature-based solutions that enhance the resilience of coastal communities and habitats to address increasing threats from storms, sea and lake level changes, flooding, erosion and other coastal hazards. The NCRF invests in nature-based projects – restoring coastal marshes and forests and coral reefs, reconnecting floodplains, removing fish passage barriers, rebuilding dunes or other natural buffers, or installing living shorelines – to protect communities from coastal hazards and enhance habitats for fish and wildlife.

The project is to complete the final design, environmental review and permitting for flood mitigation infrastructure near the Salt Lagoon and Community Pond on Saint Paul Island. This project will address increasing coastal flooding, storm-surge risks, and erosion through the development of new roadway designs integrating solutions to protect critical utility infrastructure and homes while enhancing wetland habitats critical for migrating birds.
