City Declares Economic and Social Emergency Due To Loss of Air Carrier

Economic & Social Emergency for the City of Saint Paul

Today, the City of Saint Paul Council passed a resolution declaring an economic and social emergency for Saint Paul Island, Alaska due to the temporary absence and loss of an air carrier to provide regularly scheduled passenger service.

In April 2025, the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) requested proposals from air carriers interested in providing Essential Air Service (EAS) to Saint Paul Island, Alaska for a term beginning October 1, 2025. Only one air carrier submitted a proposal.

On May 14, 2025, Ravn Airlines filed a 140-day notice to the USDOT to terminate subsidized EAS to Saint Paul Island; however, without providing proper notification, announced on July 25 that their last day of service for Saint Paul Island would be July 31, 2025.

As of today, USDOT has not yet awarded the EAS contract to another carrier, leaving Saint Paul Island without regular air service for the immediate future.
