2023 Pribilof Islands Wildlife Protection Guidelines for Oil Spill Response Now Available

The 2023 Pribilof Islands Wildlife Protection Guidelines for Oil Spill Response provides spill responders the tools and background information needed to address wildlife concerns during a spill response in the Pribilof Islands. The document additionally addresses the protection of wildlife from rats associated with grounded-vessel incidents and response-related vessels, and contains measures to help ensure that overall response activities are conducted in a manner that minimizes adverse effects to wildlife, such as the prevention of unnecessary or illegal disturbance to sensitive species and habitats. The document focuses on two principal wildlife resources – migratory birds and marine mammals – that are at risk during an oil spill on shore or in offshore and/or coastal waters or freshwater, because of their susceptibility and vulnerability to oiling and because of the importance of those species, both biologically and as a subsistence resource.

The 2023 Pribilof Islands Wildlife Protection Guidelines for Oil Spill Response document is available online on the ADEC webpage (see the “Wildlife, Fish, and Their Habitats” section):
